"Pet friendly hotel in Berkshire"

31/12/2009Kathryn Cushion via LateroomsWe attended a wedding at the Bear Hotel and booked so that we could stay over. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was excellent in the evening and the Full English Breakfast was really satisfying. I would DEFINITELY stay here again and would recommend it to friends.

04/12/2009Tracie Orchard and Andrea WatsonLee, Just a quick e-mail to say Thank you to you and all the staff at The Bear Hotel for making our Civil Partnership ceremony and celebration such a success. We had the best day, exactly what we wanted and all our guests commented on how much they enjoyed the lovely food and atmosphere. Have a great Christmas and New Year Kind Regards Tracie & Andrea

07/11/2009Kathryn and Giles YoungDear Lee, Colin,Deon and all the staff at the Bear Hotel,   We have been meaning to email you sooner but life has been very hectic since we got back from our honeymoon and time has ran away with us!   We would like to express our thanks and appreciation to all of the staff at the Bear that worked so hard to make our wedding day special.   In the build up to the wedding Lee was always there to help with any queries and was very flexible and considerate whenever I wanted to make any changes, big or small.   The day went so well and the staff could not have worked harder to make it run any smoother. They were very professional and accommodating from the outset.   The Riverside Suite was decorated beautifully and it set the scene nicely for the day. The ceremony was really lovely and managed well by the Bear and the Registrar who we thought was a very kind lady and really helped to calm our nerves!   The food was absolutely amazing and so many of our guests are still talking about the food 2 months after the event! I realise how hard it is to feed 65 people hot food but the staff managed this perfectly. They left us just the right amount of time to eat our food and did not hover unnecessarily. They were there if we needed them but managed to disappear at just the right times (speeches etc.)   The evening was just as good and once again the staff left us to enjoy ourselves but were always there if we needed them. The man behind the bar (I can't remember his name) was very long suffering dealing with all our guests requests but he was very professional and friendly all night (and it was a long night for him!).   All in all we had an amazing day and many of our guests say it's the best wedding they have been to. We owe most of this thanks to the Bear Hotel for their friendly and professional approach to the day. Our wedding was the first time that the Bear have conducted an ‘exclusive' use of the hotel for a wedding but it went so well that I hope other couples will use the hotel like this for their weddings in the future. We would be more than happy to recommend the Bear to anyone for weddings or just for a weekend break. We will certainly be returning in the future as we know we will be well looked after.   The hotel is in such a beautiful setting and is perfect for a small wedding. Couples should have no doubts about having their civil ceremony here as the Bear staff and the West Berkshire Registrar managed it flawlessly making it a very special day for us and our family and friends.   Thanks again for all your hard work to make our day so special.   We look forward to visiting you again in the future!   Best Wishes,   Kathryn & Giles Young

07/11/2009Kathryn and Giles Young via Trip advisorWe had our wedding (ceremony and reception) at the Bear Hotel on the 7th November 2009. The day went so well and the staff could not have worked harder to make it run any smoother. They were very professional and accommodating from the outset. The Riverside Suite (where the ceremony and wedding breakfast took place) was decorated beautifully and it set the scene nicely for the day. The ceremony was really lovely and managed well by the Bear and the Registrar. The food was absolutely amazing and so many of our guests are still talking about the food 2 months after the event! We realise how hard it is to feed 65 people hot food but the staff managed this perfectly. They left us just the right amount of time to eat our food and did not hover unnecessarily. We would also recommend the Bear for a weekend break. Hungerford is a lovely historic town with some fantastic and unique shops and the Bear is just 5 minutes walk away from the highstreet so a perfect place to stay to enjoy the town. The rooms in the hotel are also really nicely decorated and spacious. It is best to go for a deluxe room or a suite if you can afford it. We look forward to visiting again in the future as we know we will be well looked after, hopefully for our first anniversary!

05/11/2009Modwenna via Trip advisorWhat a lovely place the Bear is. The staff were so polite and helpful. They clearly knew we were guests so none of that annoying chit signing when we ordered lunch at the bar. The girl on reception was very helpful with ideas for places to visit. Our room was superb, warm and comfortable with an excellent bathroom. I also thought the food was great - delicious flavours and well thought out menus. We had two nights away and it was a perfect place to get to from the West Country - far enough to be away but not to far to get to. We will be coming back and i am also tempted to use it for business purposes! Hungerford was great as well especially all the antique shops. Best Modwenna

29/10/2009Janet Via Booking.com The room was lovely and quiet had a view of the car park but that didn't bother us breakfast was well presented and hot staff had a smile makes all the difference.

28/10/2009Via Booking.com Good location. Refurbished traditional hotel now with a modern flair and high standard. Very helpful staff. Restaurant has an adventurous menu but only achieved an ok result. Cheap rate but still gave us a good standard room.

17/10/2009Martin CollinsDear Lee, Just a note to express my thanks to you and the rest of the staff at The Bear: the 'Bishop Family Reunion' was a great success, thanks in large part to our choice of venue: many remarked favourably on the appointment of the rooms, the quality of the food, and on the professionalism of the staff.  We were made very welcome and very comfortable; the arrangements for dinner were excellent.   With best wishes, Martin Collins

09/10/2009Via Trip advisoryou'd probably have no expectations of any hotel in Hungerford - atleast I did not - considering the prices (low)... But, alas! Such a great place to stay with friendly staff and I have to mention the fact they serve great food too!

03/10/2009A WhileyThis is just a line to thank you all for giving our family such a lovely lunch on the 3rd and making everything run so smoothly and it was so beautifully prepared food and such a pleasant room. we thank you all again and hope to visit you again soon.
