27/08/2010Via TripadvisorWe weren't able to stay at the Bear as I had waited too long to book a room for my friend's wedding. However, we enjoyed two fantastic meals there (late Friday night and Sunday afternoon). I had the butternut squash soup with lentils which was just the thing for a suprisingly chilly day. My fiance had the lamb kaftas with a mint yogurt sauce on cous cous which was incredible! The meat was perfectly grilled outside and tender on the inside. He loved the cous cous which also had some nice veggies in it. It was the perfect amount of food so we were able to indulge in the sticky toffee pudding (a very close second to Australian sticky date pudding). On Sunday, I enjoyed the traditional beer battered fish and chips which was a bit too large of a portion for me and my fiance had the excellent sausage sandwich. We're now on a hunt for the apple cranberry relish/sauce that was on it! We found the staff, especially the bar man to be warm and friendly. The back garden is nice to sit outside in if it is a nice day. Afterwards, enjoy a nice stroll along the canal - perhaps you'll even get a ride through the lock with a nice couple and their three dogs like we did! Cheers and good eating.
25/08/2010Via Booking.comWe had a large room that was very comfortable and clean. We found the experience relaxing and the staff friendly.
23/08/2010Lone Traveller via Booking.comThe hotel was perfect for me, an elderly lady travelling on her own, who had reason to meet up with friends and relations.
14/08/2010Cathy HyamsThe room was lovely. Huge bed. A bit chilly on arrival (even though it was August). Called reception and they said heating was not usually on at this time of year but accordingly turned it on for us. The shower thermostat was tempermental. We booked early to get a good rate. On the receipt it stated that monies would not be taken from my account until arrival. The money in fact went out straight away. According to reception this is the case with early bookings - so be aware. All in all had a lovely relaxing stay.

10/07/2010Via TripadvisorWe went for a family reunion and were very pleased with the rooms and friendliness of the staff. Food in the restaurant was also good although my brother did say that the duck was a bit tough. My meal was excellent.
