The Bear Hotel, Hungerford

With a history dating back to the 13th Century, the Bear Hotel has been part of Hungerford's heritage for well over 600 years and represents a great location from which to explore the beautiful town of Hungerford and surrounding area.

The hotel's long history means it has played a part in many famous events in British history and received many famous guests over the years including Samuel Pepys, Charles I and William Prince of Orange (later to become King William III). Hungerford, situated to the west of the Royal County of Berkshire, maintains its historic market status and offers a wide range of independent retail businesses as well as easy access to The North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where some of the finest scenic countryside in Britain can be found.

Hungerford also offers easy access to Newbury and its famous racecourse as well as a quick and easy route to London via the M4.

We are a dog-friendly hotel allowing all guests to take advantage of the wide open spaces and beautiful scenery that surrounds the area.

Hotel Accommodation

Our 39 individually designed rooms offer a real sense of The Bear's history while maintaining the luxury of modern comforts. All of our rooms have en-suite bathrooms and many have balconies overlooking our very own little island.

The River Dunn flows past the hotel adding to the sense of peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

Restaurant

The Bear Hotel restaurant offers a wide range of sumptuous dishes all with a heavy emphasis on high quality, locally produced ingredients.

We are open for lunch and dinner every day as well as catering for functions and large events upon request.

The three different dining areas each offer a unique dining experience and our menu has something to offer all tastes and preferences.

Wedding Venue

The Bear Hotel is licensed for Civil Ceremonies, Civil Partnerships and Naming Ceremonies and offers a beautiful venue in which to enjoy your special day.

We have two areas to offer for your ceremony and reception as well as use of our garden and our own little island, which is great for wedding day photos.
